Allergic to the adhesive on tape and bandages?

hy tapeOne of the biggest obstacles I finally overcame in battling recurrent/constant over granulation tissue (proud flesh, granuloma, etc) was not being able to use ANY sort of medical tape to secure my peg tube and keep it from moving throughout  the day.

Leave any medical tape on my skin more than  few hours, and blisters will spring up.

In my lifetime, I thought I’d tried them all. (Medipore, Transpore. Micopore, Tegaderm film, Nexcare, Smith & Nephew OpSite Flexifix Transparent Film. .. and the list could go on and on.  I can’t even tolerate Cavilon barrier film, that is supposed to protect skin from tape adhesives!

I saw Hy Tape on Amazon, read many reviews for it, went to the Hy Tape website, and read what they had to say. On the Hy Tape website, there is an order form to request a sample, so I did.  The samples (generous amount) arrived in the mail within a few days.

The adhesive used for Hy tape is zinc oxide based.  That is what sets it apart.  It took a few weeks to be sure, as I was taping over skin that had partially healed blister patches, as a souvenir from  other tapes I’d used, pretty much out of desperation.  But, its true. Hy tape causes no reaction for me whatsoever.  In fact, I left it on for over a week on  the back of my heel where a shoe strap had been rubbing, and when I peeled it off, my skin was not even reddened.

If you need to tape your tube, but can’t due to an adhesive sensitivity, try the Hy tape–even my dermatologist hadn’t heard of it– so,  I’m doing my part to spread the word.

I had no idea it was even possible to get so excited over tape, but there you have it.  Need something bad enough, when you find it, it is truly appreciated.

As mentioned elsewhere  in this blog, I have purchased directly from Hy Tape, as well as from Amazon.  If purchasing from Amazon, pay attention to the vendor supplying it.  I have had no problem with  Diabetes Health Supplies.  Even though they are not “Prime” eligible, orders from them always arrive very quickly, and have always been genuine and undamaged.  I have had problems with another Amazon vendor, but do not wish to list the name here, as they very well may not have known the tape was defective, and there was no problem returning for a refund.

Hy tape has not compensated me in any way for this review.  They don’t even know that I’m writing it.
